Update from the Competitions Working Group

Regional Finals for the National Pairs are coming on Sunday 22nd March in five regions (Eastern, Midlands, Northern, South East and South West). We are still looking for volunteers to run the event in the following regions: South Western (BBO only), Midlands, Northern. If your County Association would like to run a heat (on BBO or on RealBridge) please contact comps@ebu.co.uk.

The Masters Pairs will take place on Sunday 22nd February. The competition is played as a 1-day event scored by match-points simultaneously across all host clubs. Open to players below the rank of Regional Master, it will comprise two sessions of 18 boards each. If your club would like to take part, please email comps@ebu.co.uk.

Earlier this week an email was sent to all County Secretaries with a list of qualifying members for the new Nine-High Corwen. If you have not received this, please contact sam@ebu.co.uk.

Student Membership

As you know since November 2025, we have extended student membership to offer 2 years free membership. Our aim is to be more inclusive and to support clubs, teachers, and students with a better framework that supports the different ways people learn and progress. It is important to keep on top of the administration of student members, all members really. Doing so will help with associated cost like the English Bridge magazine and provide accurate membership figures for your county association. 

We would like to ask clubs to lapse any students who discontinue their bridge courses. Both clubs and teachers can update their students lists directly through their My EBU accounts, for students that have discontinued you simply revoke their membership from within your student list. This information will update at Aylesbury.

Updates from EBED

As you are aware we are constantly trying to bring our training courses into different parts of England. EBED is delighted to announce a new Club Teacher Essentials course at Tunbridge Wells Bridge Club.

• To book a discounted or free place call Lisa Miller on 01296-317217 (Mon, Tues and Weds) and a club official should email Jonathan Lilycrop (EBU Club Liaison Officer jonathan@ebu.co.uk) authorising the attendance of their club member.
• EBU Members [not clubs] can book and pay to secure their course places using the booking link shown against the relevant course. Online bookings are for full price places only.

The next Club TD training course will take place in Bristol, starting on 18th January.
