Dear Club and County Main Contacts
CC: Chair, Secretary, Treasurer
This email has been sent to you as a club or county official. Below is your monthly update from the EBU. This email is also available on the EBU website, along with all past EBU Updates.
This poster shows the upcoming EBU events. Please consider adding this to your club/county website and encourage your members to enter online via My EBU.
Update from the Competitions Working Group
We are delighted to announce that we have a new venue for both the Year End Congress 2025 and the Easter Congress in 2026: Chablis Suite, Novotel West London. Please let your members know there is hotel accommodation attached to the venue, with good rates per room per night.
100 Deals for 100 Years: The next in the series of online events celebrating 100 years of contract bridge will take place this Sunday (7th September). Please encourage your members to take part in these fun events. In between the rounds players will be presented with postcards from the two decades, with stories about the wonderful people who have contributed to the game, in their own way. If you haven't watched it yet, check out this short video documenting the rise of contract bridge, starting in 1925.
As a reminder, entries are now open for the NICKO & Tollemache Cup.
Member Gets Member Drive
We recently sent an email to all clubs with a three-step plan for how to encourage your members to reach out to friends and family. With the forthcoming autumn classes and open days, now is a great time to invite new members to our clubs. We hope you will find this template useful.
Club Webinar: Teaching as a Club Activity
Thank you to everyone who attended last week's Club and County Webinar. The recording is now available to view on the EBU YouTube channel.
The next club webinar will take place on 7th October, where we will be looking at the topic of the role of teamwork & volunteering in bridge clubs. To join the meeting, please use the link below:

Promotion of Autumn Classes & Open Days
We now have a list of 80 Beginner Classes, Open Days & Taster Sessions starting around the country in the autumn.
We plan to actively promote these at a national level as part of drive to raise the profile of bridge in the minds of new audiences. By having clear visibility of courses nearby we hope to encourage potential learners and returners to sign up now.
If you have not already done so, please let us know of your event and we will add it to the list. You can use this online form to help ensure we have the information we need in a usable format. Any questions please email mary.cousins@ebu.co.uk. Bridge teachers who are members of the English Bridge Teachers' Association, will be contacted directly by EBED.

Club Teacher Training & Director Training Offer
The EBU funds a Club Teacher Training place for one delegate from each affiliated club every two years. This offer now also applies to Club Director Training: if a club has not used its Teacher Training place in the past two years, it may instead use the offer for a Director Training place. In both cases, the delegate or club pays upfront and is reimbursed by the EBU.
For Teacher Training courses, if a club sends one delegate, a second from the same club may attend the same course free of charge—regardless of whether the first place was EBU-funded. This offer applies to both affiliated and unaffiliated clubs. The second delegate may train as either an assistant or lead teacher.
