Welcome to a bonus Event Focus, intended to make sure everyone is aware of the details of our Summer Festival. We hope that if you haven't already entered one of the competition then you are planning to take part, whether in London, or at a midweek event at a club near you.

Competition details are below, but we also have information on travel, parking, accommodation, etc which may be helpful - see here. This page will also be the place to see results, photos, and articles once the Festival is underway.

Entering the Summer Festival

For the competitions in London, plus enter with the EBU using the online booking system through My EBU, or by contacting the Competitions Department on 01296 317203/219 or comps@ebu.co.uk.

For the heats of the midweek competitions please enter directly with the host clubs - see below for details.

Swiss Pairs Championship
Royal National Hotel
3rd - 5th August

At the Royal National Hotel, Russell Square, London.

15 eight-board matches, played across five sessions, over three days - one more match than in Brighton/Eastbourne at no extra cost. 

Two start times on Friday - 6pm or 7.15pm - you decide and you don't need to tell us in advance.

An earlier finish on Saturday (approx 8:30pm) to help those commuting to the venue each day.

Master Points are at an enhanced level to reflect the status of the events. The competition is stratified with awards to the leading lower ranked players.

There's a free Open Pairs at 2pm on Friday 3rd for participants in the Swiss Pairs.

2017 winners - Byrne, Bell, Dyke, Robertson & Bell

Four Stars Swiss Teams
Royal National Hotel
17th - 19th August

At the Royal National Hotel, Russell Square, London.

10 eight-board matches are played across the first three sessions. The top 16 teams then go into one of the all-play-all Four Stars finals (top 8 in the 'A' final; next 8 in the 'B' final). The remainder continue in the Swiss Teams, with five matches on Sunday - one more than in Brighton/Eastbourne at no extra cost.

Two start times on Friday - 6pm or 7.15pm - you decide and you don't need to tell us in advance.

An earlier finish on Saturday (approx 8:30pm) to help those commuting to the venue each day.

Master Points are at an enhanced level to reflect the status of the events. There are two additional prizes for the leading 'non-expert' teams.

There's a free Point-a-Board Teams at 2pm on Friday 17th for participants in the Four Stars Teams

One Day Swiss Pairs
University of London Union 
18th & 19th August

Two stratified One Day Swiss Pairs competitions with 6 x 7-board matches each day - ideal for those who do not have team mates for the Four Stars Teams, who cannot commit to a full weekend, or who would just prefer to play that type of competition.

They are Green Pointed with a bonus award for the pair with the best combined result across the two days.

Play starts at midday at the Upper Hall, University of London Union - just a five minute walk from the Royal National Hotel, so it will be easy to meet with friends and family who are playing in the Four Stars Teams.

Midweek competitions

6th, 7th, 15th & 16th August

The midweek competitions usually held at the Summer Meeting will continue as part of the Summer Festival, but as multi-venue competitions, with heats hosted by affiliated clubs.

A share of entry fees from the events are retained by the host club, so please play in your local heat and support the clubs which are taking part.
