EBU Event Focus
Issue 60: August 2017

Dear EBU member

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Summer Meeting. We hope you enjoyed your trip to Eastbourne and we hope to see you there in 2019. As for 2018...

The Summer Festival 2018
As the Devonshire Park complex is undergoing extensive refurbishment, they will not have space to accommodate us for the Summer Meeting in 2018. We will therefore not be going to Eastbourne, and will instead be holding a one-off Summer Festival in 2018 between 3rd and 19th August.

♠ The main weekend competitions will be held at the Royal National Hotel in London.
Friday 3rd - Sunday 5th August: the Swiss Pairs Championship (preceded by an Open Pairs on Friday afternoon).
Friday 17th - Sunday 19th August: the Four Stars Swiss Teams Championship (preceded by a Point-a-Board Teams on Friday afternoon).
♦ Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th August - One day Swiss Pairs at the Royal National Hotel
♣ The Summer Meeting's main midweek competitions will continue to take place, and will be held in the fortnight between the two weekend competitions - provisionally on 6th/7th and 15th/16th August. These may be run as multi-venue events (locations TBC), and will include a London venue so you can combine playing in these competitions and the weekend events.
♥ There won’t be any Seniors competitions held during this fortnight, but new Seniors competitions have been added to the Scarborough Summer Congress.
♠ There will be a Really Easy Congress in the summer of 2018 but details are still to be finalised.

The 2018 Summer Seniors Congress
Although the refurbishment will affect the Summer Meeting in 2018, the Summer Seniors Congress will still take place in Eastbourne, using the facilities at the tennis centre on the far side of the Devonshire Park complex.

As always, if you have any queries about any of the events featured here then please don't hesitate to contact the Competitions Department on 01296 317203/219 or at comps@ebu.co.uk. Entries can be made by calling this number, or through My EBU, the members area of the website - www.ebu.co.uk/members.

Entries close on 25th September

The National Inter-Club Knockout is one of our most popular events, and is open to teams from all EBU affiliated clubs. Each club can enter an unlimited number of teams, so why not team up with your clubmates and take part?!

It is played as a knockout throughout, with the draw regionalised to reduce travelling. A Plate competition is available at no extra charge.

Entry forms are available on our website and should be submitted by the Club Secretary.

Please ensure that all players meet the qualification requirements to represent the club - this includes that they should have been a member of club for at least three months prior to the closing date, and this membership should have been registered with the EBU.
