English Bridge is the bi-monthly magazine produced by the EBU for its eligible members.
Printed copies of the magazine are sent automatically to all eligible members, except for those who have opted not to receive one. Eligibility is based on a member being a direct member, or having accumulated sufficient Magazine Points through Universal Membership. The Magazine Points system is summarised here. Any members who are not eligible should read the magazine online.
The magazine is available online through My EBU.
The online version of the magazine is available to non-members twelve months after publication and are archived below.
A diary is circulated to all eligible members each year with the August magazine. Eligibility is based on having sufficient magazine points in July of that year.
Any changes to the information which is printed in the diary is listed on our diary changes page.
Since August 2019, if you wish to receive a copy of the diary you will need to opt in even if you previously received it. The best and easiest way to opt-in is by changing the setting on your account on My EBU. Click on 'Account' in the top right corner, select 'My Details', and then in the 'Account Settings' section of the page, under the 'Magazine/Diary Preference' option use the drop down list to choose your preferred setting.
You are able to search the magazines if you wish to find a specific topic, person, etc. Please see the help page for more information.
An index of all the educational articles which have been printed in the magazine since 2007 is available, along with links to the correct pages of the relevant magazines:
A link to an archive of news which has previously been submitted by counties for inclusion in English Bridge, can be found below. This column in the magazine was discontinued at the end of 2017 as the majority of members were sourcing more up-to-date information from county websites and newsletters, and a survey of the readership indicated that other content should be given priority.
Magazine archiveWe are delighted to be able to add old editions of English bridge magazines on the website. The first in-house magazine (The EBU Quarterly) dates from April 1966. It was replaced by what we know today as English Bridge from 1984. In the post-war period we had input into Contract Bridge Journal from 1946 to 1956 and thereafter British Bridge World until it ceased publication in late 1964. Keep an eye on these pages for updates as we add more. EBU members only may view the most recent editions by logging in to their My EBU.
Last updated: May 2016.
Notes*1 Publishing did not resume until 1946.
*2 Paper rationing prevented publication of copies in Jan & Feb 1947.
*3 June and July was one issue.
