We hope you will find the below information useful in helping you with advertising and spreading the word about your festival events.
Social Media:
- If you don't have one already, create an individual Club Facebook page and Instagram account.
- Post on your club page about upcoming events and then share these posts in your local Facebook community pages
- Join our dedicated Festival group page and share the link to your members with a post to your club page asking them to join. Comment and share posts from the group to your own pages and other groups
- Use the EBU resources already available. Include the Bridge - It's a Big Deal! Logo and/or Cancer Research UK and EBU combined logo in your posts, add links to videos from the EBU YouTube channel, share the map of events and link to the festival page
- Include relevant hashtags and tag people where possible, suggested hashtags include #bridge #EBU #englishbridge #playbridge #duplicatebridge #Mindsports
Club website:
- On your club website, include a banner advert for your festival event on the home page
- Include booking links or contact details for people to sign up for the evet
- Link back to the EBU festival page
- Include the Bridge - It's a Big Deal! Logo and/or Cancer Research UK and EBU combined logo
- Add quotes about the festival and why your members or new people should get involved. E.g. from EBU Chair Adrian Darnell says "The Festival of Bridge is a fantastic idea. It is a superb opportunity for the current bridge community to showcase our wonderful game to the many who have never played the game and to reignite the enthusiasm amongst those who have played but not in last decade or so. I sincerely hope that everyone will get behind the Festival and, through it, attract a new cohort to the bridge tables, and at the same time support the vital work of Cancer Research UK.”
Community advertising:
- Utilise your local community advertising areas; Shopping centres, shops, schools, social clubs, sporting clubs, libraries, church halls, etc.
- Create posters or flyers for your event (for help with this see our event poster templates (example 1, example 2 and example 3) or email festival@ebu.co.uk and we will be happy to amend the templates for you
- Ask the above clubs or communities to display the details on noticeboards
- If you have a community newsletter, ask if they will be happy to advertise your upcoming event
Media:
Contact your local press e.g. radio station, newspaper, magazines, etc. with a Press Release about your event. This should be done close the event date. Always offer a news aspect (see point 5 below) and include the following:
- Headline - subject
- Date of release (when they can publish)
- Point of contact, including their name, email and phone number
- Two paragraphs outlining the point of the festival and the charity aspect
- Your particular angle (news item)
- Official festival logo, your club logo and imagery
- Use this template as a guide where possible
Flyers:
Please use any of these templates (example 1, example 2 and example 3) to create unique flyers for your event, or contact us at festival@ebu.co.uk and we will be happy to amend the templates for you.
You may like to have your flyers printed professionally and distribute them to your local area/neighbours via letterbox drops
Digital Comms:
Use our email template to invite your club members to your event. Make sure you include a booking link or request a response from the email to encourage people to sign up and book.
If you have and club or county newsletters or magazines, feel free to copy the EBU communications that are sent to clubs and counties and pass these to your members to encourage them to get involved.
Strategic Partnerships:
Ask your local clubs and community groups to get involved with your event. They may be willing to share their communication channels and email their members with details about the festival, or they may wish to run an event in parallel.
