Slow play on-line

Any laws or helpful tips, (beyond "hurry up please") with slow players in an on-line competition please?

  • You can always send their partner a message asking if they agree their partner's call has been slow. Not an expert on this but aren't calls time stamped? Also are there TDs online during the tournament. If there aren't then there isn't much you can do.

FWIW I would try and avoid saying "Hurry up please" - would you say that to a player physically at the table with you?

In the old days of dial-up connection, it was quite common for players to have to re-connect. These days most people playing bridge online in the UK will have broadband.

  • Even with broadband you can have issues, depending on what others in the household are doing with the connection.

  • I gave up online Bridge. Most played Standard American so I had to think occasionally. The software didn't allow much time but too often the obscene hurry up comments were even quicker.
