Law 68 - "play on" suggested by claimer

If a claimer suggested that play continued after a claim and the non claimers agreed but later called the director what would be the significance of the following Law 68 sub section.

“(b) upon the request of the non-claiming or non- conceding side, play may continue subject to the following:”

It specifically says the non claiming side must be the players who suggest “play on”.

Presumably the rule is to stop an experienced player “bullying” a less experienced player but I can’t see how it can be applied.

  • Simply put, it means that the non-claiming side may still ask for a director to adjudicate the point of claim if they dislike the way it played out.

  • I would imagine that this would be similar to a situation that I posted, where a claimer has been asked by the opponent to play on and he does, without obtaining the consent of the other two.

Gordon had replied giving the answer. You may refer to that post.

  • Yes thanks, I found your post last night.
