  • If my partner plays a singleton from dummy at trick one I ask them to put it back until I am ready to play it.

  • All bids are calls.
Calls which are not bids are pass, double, redouble.

  • If North's bid was not alerted or announced, there is no reason for East to assume it is a weak bid. West should, of course have alerted 2NT if he believed it to be UNT, but the lack of any announcement or alert from South leaves West in a diffi…

  • Thank you, Gordon, for the clarification. I have never seen anyone alert such doubles and wondered if they might be an exception. I will attempt to educate when I have my TD hat on.

  • Once 1NT has been doubled, it is normal practice to play doubles of any "escape" contract as penalties, and this is the expected meaning. Do such doubles require an alert?

  • Thank you, both of you.

  • Many years ago, I learned Acol with Strong Twos. Shortly after that my partner suggested playing Benji. The agreement for Benji at that time was a Strong Two opener in an unspecified suit. 8PT was one of the criteria for a Strong Two, but it h…

Surely the hand records should not be available to the players in any competition at any level until after the last round. It is too open to abuse. In practice, of course, you have to trust the person who actually deals the boards. …

  • Having ruled under Law 47E1, that East's lead is retracted without without penalty and South must pick up his cards and become declarer, East-West now have some extra information. West has seen East's retracted lead and both East and West have s…

  • There are still a few players who play the old-fashioned cue bid of opponents suit to show a game forcing hand. This would IMO be comparable to an intended 2C opener.

It is worth pointing out that Scorebridge gets the "small subfield formula" wrong. In fact it just applies Neuberg and ignores it. Our club has now switched to EBUScore, but I wrote a document a while back with instructions for scori…

  • It is very difficult to determine whether the issue is a fielded psyche or an illegal system. They never have system cards, and I could not get a straight answer as to why they bid as they did. The systems allowed for the session in question ar…

  • I do wonder what she learned from the Club Director training! I find it very hard to believe that she doesn't know what a psyche is. This leads me to believe that she was "trying it on" or playing an illegal agreement. I suspect that North wil…

  • We have experienced computer crashes on occasion, and I do think it is a Windows problem. It is perfectly safe to shut down everything. You then restart EBUScore, retrieve the event, and restart from the point it got to. It will then retrieve …

  • I did put sensible spacing in it, but it has not been preserved. I hope it is still understandable.
