Unfortunately we don't have any test site for this.

Yes, after you have checked that this session is indeed part of that SIM event.

Hi Tony
Yes, you should delete a session before uploading a new one and it will get a new session ID.
I did email you about linking to a SIM result but perhaps it did not arrive? From that email:
If you look at the JSON re…

Hi Tony
The session ID is not known until the session is written to our database. The database engine assigns the ID. This is standard practice as it ensures that duplicate IDs are not possible. If your software needs to know the ID, the …

1NT is a limit bid whereas 1S is unlimited so I don't think it is comparable.

Thanks Jeffrey. I think it would be better to hack the import than to have something in the DTD that isn't in the spec.

Hi again
When EBUScore creates the XML for Bridgewebs it includes a DIRECTOR element which is not part of the USEBIO 1.2 spec. EBUScore then cannot import that XML file. If you manually delete the line then it imports OK, at least this o…

Was the XML file originally created by EBUScore? You would get this error with an XML file created by BBO Extractor, for example, but the ones generated by EBUScore should be OK. If you email the file to me I can take a look? tim at ebu.co.uk.
(Quote)A key point is the second part of that clause "if he judges that the extraneous information affected the result."
Let us imagine that the traveller showed 3NT= NS at all tables so far. The board is played and the result is 3NT=…
Hi Jeffrey do you mean this page? https://bridgewebs.com/cgi-bin/bwoq/bw.cgi?club=2220&pid=display_home/ - this is not showing any lis…
Many thanks Gordon.
Hi Tony, I have recently written C# code to do exactly this. If you tell me what error you are getting I can help.
Tim
Thanks Gordon that all makes perfect sense.
Tim
That makes sense, thanks Gordon.

What I mean is that if you polled the entire population and asked questions like "do you play any card games regularly" the percentage of positive responses would be less now than 10 years ago, and that would be less than it was 20 years ago. I d…
I think the "candidates for learning the game" category is very broad and includes anyone who, potentially, could enjoy bridge. One of our (meaning the entire bridge community) challenges is how to make the benefits of this incredibly enjoyable g…
My personal view is that our home page should be geared to those enquiring about bridge or looking for somewhere to play. "Play or learn bridge" should be the theme of the home page. All the reference information will still be there and those who…
I agree about Law and Ethics and I think by and large we do this very well.
Tim
I agree that we should communicate well with members but that doesn't seem to me to be a membership strategy?
Tim
Perhaps we could at least remove the words "card game" from the mission statement. Card games are in decline. We should aim higher.
Tim
I haven't actually used BBO extractor but have worked with its creators, John and Mirna Goacher.
The issue here may be that in order to support the replay feature in Bridge Solver Online, accessible via Bridgewebs, there are .lin elements…
I think the EBU does an excellent job with competitions. I know there are some concerns around for example fixture congestion. I think the increased engagement with online bridge triggered by the pandemic does mean that online will now have a big…
Apologies (and I am sorry I can't edit my post) I do see that the mission statement mentions bridge clubs and I am not sure how I missed it! What is the meaning of the word "valued" in the mission statement though, why would anyone want to provid…
Membership and Communications are rather distinct. The membership strategy should incorporate elements of (5) which is about providing good value for members - since it is no good promoting a service if the service is not worth promoting. The com…
Technology is not just about online bridge. What about having the EBU assist in club payment systems, for example? That would be a tangible benefit to clubs.
I am not sure the vision makes sense. How would anyone NOT have access "to the b…
I think the EBU should offer a value-add so that clubs get a tangible benefit from affiliating - that is, unless we decide to completely change the way the EBU is financed?
Therefore we should discuss what is appropriate for the EBU to do…
I am not sure why "Membership" and "Communications" are in the same heading?
Tim
How does this relate to EBED vs EBU?
Tim
(Quote)Happy to oblige!

This topic seems to be conflating several things. A key service it seems to me is the promotion and marketing of member clubs. This naturally overlaps with recruitment. It is distinct though from teaching or promoting bridge as a game, in terms o…
