Hang on - are you saying that Robots count as "stand=by players"?
-
Thanks, Robin.

What about "Tell them what you play"?
If the majority of the field will play it as showing 5, then a 4 card suit is unexcpected.
I can play weak 2s as 5+ cards and 3-6 HCP, but at my club I would expect to make my opponents aware …

According to the Blue Book 2023 (unless I've missed something), a natural (i.e. balanced) 2NT opening bid only has to have 16+ HCP. Quite a lot of scope for variation, and hence a need to know the 2NT range.

Just to clarify, this has happened 3 times recently. The "13 tricks missing Ace of Trumps" was to give an example where I could be sure (other irregularities aside) that the result was not possible.
Two of them have been resolved. One w…

(Quote)
I didn't say it was a grand slam, just 13 tricks taken.
-
(Quote)
Sounds sensible, but where in the laws does it say I can do that?
Actually do the laws not treat it as result not obtainable, and hence AV-/AV- (putting in wrong result and failing to check)?

You obviously don't have much experience with lower level players!

The result. Think make 13 tricks missing the Ace of trumps.

This is one of the pitfalls of the current regulations - damned if you do and damned if you don't.
We have changed the alerting and announcing rules for our friendly sessions, at which inexperienced players are present.
(Quote)Do they have such a responsibility?
I mean it's a good thing and any good club would, but is it actually a duty/responsibility?
(Quote)This says that:
_Players must not be in the same room as any other member of their team or within hearing range of them while playing. _
Although it does not say so, surely this means members of their team other than their …(Quote)How is that any differnt to being F2F at a table?
(Quote)Thanks, Jaded. That makes more sense now (although it's not something I would ever have thought of as N).
OK I'm being thick here, NS signalling system aside, why does KH played after a long pause mean switch to Spades (when after a short pause one it doesn't)?
(Quote)Surely good regulations are clear and unambiguous, and don't rely on being read "in a sensible fashion".
The point is that the rules are not just for dealing with the situations we can forsee, but those we can't. Just because …
(Quote)And I do. But then I see a lot of club bridge, played by club players. Those the EBU represents.
(Quote)Sorry yes - complete brain-fart there. I was thinking of if they played it, which of course isn't the situation here.
I repeat my point - slow play is not automatically an irregularity.
Moreover, a result (on the board) clearly can be obtained.
(Quote)I can't see anthing in Law 12 that says this.
It does talk about adjustments where there have been infractions, but slow play is not an infraction, only unduly slow play. And even then that's a PP. Surely the director has a r…
Easy solution: Get everyone to turn their cards over so they show in the order played, then take a photo. Then deliberate at your leisure.
There doesn't seem to be a question here, but law 67B tells you how to deal with it.
(Quote)Except Diamonds :-o
(Quote)It doesn't say that anywhere in the laws that I can see.
As directors we get our authority from the laws (and the associated guidance). We can use our judgement in applying the laws but we can't just make stuff up because we d…
(Quote)I wasn't directing (or even there) - this was brought to me by a club member.
(Quote)On what basis? Where in the laws / guidelines does it say (or even suggest) the director can enforce this?
For the record, this was a real situation and the player refused to change them.
(Quote)By "that suit" do you mean the suit of the original call (if it is a bid), or the suit of the call that s/he is required to make?
(Quote)I stand corrected (I missed it first time round). WB2022 2.8.2 bb advocates a DP for "Deliberately and knowingly breaching the laws".
That should do it.
(Quote)Perhaps I should clarify:
By "on what basis would you rectify?" I'm referring to what exactly you would adjust the score to? Ok so you need a real example, but of all the situations I can envisage, none have an obvious "adjust …(Quote)I agree it is worthy of sanction, but what and how? It feels like UI but (if properly explained) is not.
72B1 says a player can't break the laws deliberately, even if they're willing to bear the penalty, so this is definitely …
