You do not say if N claimed his call was unintended (see later).
Do you believe N deliberately made an insufficient bid? If so to what end? If he wants to end up in 4NT he can just pass.
If they are trying some sort of clever Bla…

(Presumed) Declarer is not determined by who ends up leading to the first trick, but by the definition: "the player who, for the side that makes the final bid, first bid the denomination named in the final bid. He becomes declarer whe…

Agreed - 60A1 clearly states that the right to rectification has been forfeited. So NOS cannot invoke law 54A.
But it is law 54A that gives declarer the "right" to become dummy (and therefore the automatic "must" if he so acti…

I question whether playing (exposing) a single card amounts to spreading a hand.
The law says " If declarer begins to spread his hand, and in doing so exposes one or more cards", not " If declarer exposes one or more cards he i…

I'm intrigued by this.
It seems to be suggesting that the agreement is affected by how much the players can remember and indeed utilise their agreement.
Suppose my partner and I agree to play a convention, and put it on…

Sorry yes it was: the correction was to spades and clubs (which are the top and bottom of the other 3 suits).

Thanks Jeremy69 and Martin - both seem good reasons.
I do note though that the actual hand results are publically available online and could be found (along with the player names) with a minor amount of investigation.
Does this me…

Is this to avoid unconscious prejudice, rather than any data protection concern?

Agreed. I asked S what she would do in that situation and she said she would pass, hence no double.

And so I went back the the masterpoints handbook, and went to look at Scale G (County Association Green Point Scale) with my new found knowledge.
It isn't there.
It's in the contents list, but it does not (as far as I can see) act…

OK I get it now.
I hadn't properly understood how the tables work - 4.1.5 makes that clear.
Thanks, everyone!

My reading of 4.1.3 is that the number of full tables determines the level of the awards, not the number of recipients (the tables show the level of the awards, not the number of recipients).
Maybe it's poor phrasing?

I notice in 4.12.8 (stratifed events) it states:
_Other regulations generally pertaining to Master Point awards also apply to the calculation of
awards within stratification categories. For example: [...]

I found that EBUScore (1.2.6) did the opposite. For 9 pairs, with 50% qualifying for MPs, it only gave to the top 4, not the top 5.

Thanks, Paul.

Aha!
I was using EBUScore 1.1 which doesn't have this option. Update to 1.2 which does and the import worked fine - thanks.
BUT
It has calculated the GPs differently to the way I did. It has given awards to ju…

I couldn't figure out how to. EBUScore seems to expect .dat files. I tried with the xml but just got nonsense.

I'm not sure I agree that it leads to a better game of bridge. Less UI, yes, but the fiddly process of having to type the meaning of the bid. From the point of view of the enjoyment of the game, I would far rather have partner alerti…

Oooh random numbers - one of my favourtie topics!
A couple of initial observations:
1) There is no such thing as random in the real world (unless you go down to the quantum level). Pseudo random is the best that can be obtained, an… -

Actually if you do that, it recognises the now "duplicate" pairing and allows you to combine them, so no need to save, convert and reload.

I found this on a discussion board:
_The English Bridge Union (EBU) Recommends using a modified IMP scale for scoring teams of 8 matches. It is obtained by multiplying the standard IMP scale by √2.

Thanks Robin
(Quote)I prefer partner alerting because it's much easier than typing out stuff, which IMHO detracts from the enjoyment of bridge.

So "promissory" or "non-promissory" are insufficient desciptions because they are not well defined?

Can you direct me to a definition of non-promissory that states this?
I ask because the only things I can find say nothing about using Stayman as a weak takeout in clubs.

My understanding was that playing 1NT 2C 2X 3C as weak with clubs and thus not necessarily a major was still classified as promissory Stayman. The 2C is in principle promissory Stayman, it's only the later 3C that negates this. Just…
