Junior Bridge Events and Announcements

Under 15 Squad

The EBU is pleased to announce that it will be forming an Under 15 squad to help develop and train an Under 15 international team. We are asking interested individuals or pairs to contact us if they would like to be considered for this squad. In the first instance, we are intending to use the squad to select an Under 15 team to send to the European Youth Bridge Teams Championships in Tromso, Norway (18th to 23rd July 2015).

To be eligible to join the squad players must have been born on or after the 1st January 2000. We expect to hold 3 to 6 training days between February and June, supplemented by online coaching.

We would very much appreciate it if you could make us aware of any young people who might be interested in joining the squad, or pass the information on to any you think may be suitable.

You, or the players, can contact dawn@ebu.co.uk for more information or to register an interest.

Young Bridge Challenge

The 2015 Young Bridge Challenge will be held on Saturday 28th February 2015 at Loughborough Grammar School.

It is a one-day bridge event for school-age players of all experience levels. Entry is free, and it consists of:

S Schools Cup for teams of four players all from the same school.
H Swiss Teams for teams of four players from bridge clubs, schools or mixed teams from more than one school.
D Minibridge Pairs for players of school age who have just started learning the game.
C Short pairs duplicate for accompanying adults.

This event is great fun for players of all abilities as there is something for all, whether competing for prizes, or just playing bridge and socialising with their peers.

Please see here for the webpage, or here for an entry form.

EBED Students and Schools - National Simultaneous Pairs

A sim pairs event open to all bona fide bridge students who are currently having lessons through an EBUTA teacher, Bridge for All or any other teaching scheme. It is also open to schools. Heats can be run any time during March, and more than one session can be held if needed. A minimum of one table is all that is needed to hold a heat so even the smallest of groups can be involved.

The event gives students the opportunity to play in one of their first national events, competing against all the other students entering across the country. It is fun to play in, with just the right amount of challenge to make it exciting and interesting! A hand commentary is provided so both students and teacher can consider the hands where they could have done better.

There were over 300 pairs entered in 2014, and we hope to have even more this year. Entry is free and is made by bridge teachers on behalf of their group.

Please see here for the webpage.

Thank you in advance for helping the next wave of bridge players to flourish.
