Club Management Focus: Summer 2018

Welcome to the Summer edition of Club Management Focus.

As the days get shorter and our gardens don’t need as much attention, we can turn our attention to other pleasurable pursuits, the most important of which of course is bridge! Many bridge clubs - if only it were all - take advantage of the change of seasons by preparing to welcome new recruits to their bridge lessons. These beginners are the life blood of our clubs and I urge you all to ensure that your club website prominently displays details of lessons offered by your club or in your area. In this edition of CMF, we have included assistance for clubs offering lessons with advertisement templates, a leaflet on the reasons why people play bridge (identified by the research done by Stirling University), and advice on using Facebook advertising to effectively target new learners. We have also explained how to set up a Facebook page for your club as this form of advertising has proved to be both successful and cost effective. Current club members can be encouraged to spread the word by offering them incentives to bring newcomers along and club and an open evening with refreshments and time to socialise may encourage both newcomers to bridge and social players to try out your club.

I wish you all a fruitful Autumn with lots of new players enjoying our beautiful game.
