Why do people play bridge?

You may be aware of the research which EBED is undertaking in conjunction with Stirling University. One part of this was a survey which some of you may have completed. The quantitative responses showed that playing bridge has a positive effect on wellbeing. The academics at Stirling University have then gone on to spend time looking through over 6,000 written responses, and have written a report on the reasons why people play bridge.

The responses may come as no surprise to any of us, but it is only once EBED have robust, academic evidence that they can approach certain organisations who are not interested in anecdotal evidence, or things which are ‘obvious’ but have no ‘proof’. Having this academic report is therefore an important development.

The report is available here.

More digestible for those who you are trying to get interested in bridge may be:
a ‘blog’ by the academics giving some of their thoughts on the what the answers show about bridge – blog.
a leaflet which presents some quotes from the respondents to the survey – leaflet.

We hope these are useful and/or interesting to you.
