Club Management Focus: Autumn 2018

Improving our database of ages

The EBU is working hard to get more people joining clubs and playing bridge, and to address the issue of an aging bridge-playing demographic. You can read more about this in the article from Membership Development Officer, Tim Anderson, here.

In order to do this effectively, we need accurate data on the current situation, and currently this is hard because we have the age recorded for under a third of our members, and for some clubs, under 10%. In some cases, people want to keep this private, which is fine, but often it is just a matter of not completing this optional field when the member record was created.

You can help, by encouraging your members to provide us with this information. They can do it either by: logging into the “My EBU” section of our website, going to Account and then My Details, and entering their date of birth if empty; or by emailing our membership secretary karend@ebu.co.uk with their EBU number and date of birth. Alternatively, you could email us with a list of the dates of birth of multiple members of your club – though of course only with their specific consent.

Please assure them that the information won’t be used for external marketing or shared with other organisations other than in aggregated form as part of our overall membership statistics. It is not visible to other EBU members.
