Rees & Kay amongst winners at Spring Bank Holiday Congress

Tim Rees and Alan Kay (pictured with EBU Chairman Jeremy Dhondy) were narrow winners of the Championship Pairs at the Spring Bank Holiday Congress in Bournemouth, finishing just 0.16% ahead of Frances Hinden & Graham Osborne. Miles Cowling & David Jones had an excellent final session to move into third place.

The 'B' final was won emphatically by Maxine Julius & David Arundel, who finished over five per cent ahead of their nearest rivals, Bill Gardner & Heather Dhondy.

The Swiss Pairs, for those who did not reach the finals or were unavailable to take part in the earlier stages of the Championship Pairs, was won by Alastair Gidman & Lorna Swadling. They finished twelve VPs ahead of second placed David Gold & Allison Green.

The first winners of the weekend were in the Really Easy Afternoon which took place on Saturday afternoon. The event was intended as an introduction to congress bridge for those with less experience, and was won by Christine Denning & Titia van der Heijden. Tom Nell & Richard Hawkes were second.

The congress concluded on Monday with a Swiss Teams. This was won by Frances Hinden, Jeffrey Allerton, Mike Scoltock & Paula Leslie. They won six of their seven matches to finish on 111 VPs. There was a tie for second, with the team of Liz Hayton, Addis Page, Stephen Gore & Geoff Fogg and the team of Jette Bailey, Alan Bailey, Warner Solomon & Taf Anthias both finishing on 97 VPs. The 'B' Stratification in the event was won by the team of Anne Waterhouse, Rosetta Smyth, Michael Butler & Eva Butler.
