The Great Northern Swiss Pairs, held on 4th-5th October, was won by Kath & Alan Nelson.
The event, run by the Yorkshire Contract Bridge Association on behalf of the EBU, was played over 12 rounds, and Kath & Alan finished on 165 VPs, narrowly ahead of William Crook & Richard Winter on 163.5 VPs. The rest of the top five were not far behind, with John & Pauline Rudolf on 161 VPs, Celia & Derek Oram on 160 VPs, and Geoff Kenyon & Carole Kelly on 159 VPs.
An Improvers Pairs event was held on Sunday and was won by Gillian Emerson & Alan Stephenson with 65.15%. Sheila Leadbeater & Gail Hutton were second on 63.26%, and Sylvia Hall & Christine Willey were third with 59.47%.
