Novice team from Lincolnshire wins Harrogate Congress Swiss Teams

The main teams event at the Harrogate Congress was won by a team of relatively inexperienced players at this level, Kiat Huang, Mark Wardell, Nick Hunter & Ruby Schnalke (pictured). The team, from Lincolnshire played remarkably well as they had not played as a team before and had not won any previous EBU event. The Congress was run by Yorkshire Contract Bridge Association on behalf of the EBU.

In the Swiss Pairs, Michael Byrne & Tom Slater (picture) claimed top spot with second place going to the pair of Ted Reveley & Bill Niccol and Mike Ash & Rob Ferrari in third.

The congress began with Open, Mixed and Improvers Pairs and Improvers Teams competitions. The Open Pairs was won by Kevin Higgins & Julian Hayward, finishing 1.18% ahead of Rob Lawy & Dave Robinson in second. The winners of the Mixed Pairs were Fiona Brown & Michael Levi (picture), with Tracy Capal & David Flacks in the runners-up spot. The Improvers Pairs was won by Joan Eager & Brian Eager (picture), slightly ahead of joint second place Katherine Libbert & Jon Crook and Phil Rowland & Stuart Taylor. The Improvers Teams was won by Mark Dunkley, Jenny Dunkley, Iwan Williams & Maureen Williams (picture).
