County Bridge Club, Leicester opening

The County Bridge Club in Leicester recently celebrated their new venue with a grand opening on 11th May. Gordon Rainsford, Chief Executive of the EBU, cut the ribbon (picture). Irene Krantz, one of Leicestershire's longest bridge playing members, cut the cake (picture).

The club, which started in 1961, had been at their previous premises for 39 years. In September 2018 the members voted to seek charitable status and buy and move to a new building. The committee of nine volunteers, aided by several of the club members, worked tirelessly to ensure the move and work was completed on schedule.

The County Bridge Club has operated in the City of Leicester for nearly 58 years and this marks a significant new chapter in this clubs long and illustrious history. The modern single-story building will be able to host new events on a City, County and Regional basis utilising the excellent transport links to Leicester.

The club hopes to extend their teaching program to engage with schools, colleges and other organisations to promote the playing of Contract Bridge. The club committee are confident that this move will secure the future of the club and bridge in Leicestershire for many years to come.
