Trials for the 2021 Camrose Trophy, the competition between the teams of the 'home nations', will be held 11th - 13th December. Both the Camrose itself and the trials for it will be played online, via RealBridge. The trial will be all-play-all over the three days with the top six pairs offered a place in a Camrose team.
Entries for this pairs trial cost £90 per player, are open to all and will be accepted from Monday 16th November until the closing date of Wednesday 9th December. You can enter online via MyEBU, by email to email@example.com or via phone 01296 317203. Entrants must have paid before the event to be eligible to play in it.
The prices for this trial are significantly lower than they would have been face to face, but reflect the fact that high-level events always attract a premium. Many players will also be saving a significant amount of money in travel and accommodation costs.
We have been working hard to keep bridge going over the last eight months, but with no end in sight we also need to work hard to keep the EBU going. Despite taking advantage of all government support that has been available, making a number of staff redundant and cutting costs everywhere we can, we are still using our reserves at an unsustainable rate. Even though the furlough scheme has now been extended, this will continue to present challenges.
Competitions and trials are one way of raising the money necessary for the EBU's survival as well as contributing towards any financial support for international teams that may be possible, so we will be following this pricing strategy for all our online congresses and major competitions.
The first weekend of the Camrose Trophy will take place 8th - 10th January 2021, managed by Ireland. The second weekend will take place 5th - 7th March, managed by Wales.
