Philip Wraight

Philip moved to the Lake District in 2001 from Cambridge where for twenty years he had been Tournament Organiser of both the Cambridge Club and the County. Cambridge’s loss was Westmorland’s gain! Philip joined the local bridge club on the day he arrived in Kendal.

He obtained a bridge teaching award and started his first bridge class with 16 students in September 2002 in his own home. He also taught mini bridge in the local primary school as well as developing U3A bridge in Kendal. The following year he started another afternoon class and an evening beginner group. The classes for beginners have continued to take place each year.

Philip also started directing at the two Kendal Bridge Club evenings and it was as Kendal Chairman that he thoughtfully began to prepare the club for the influx of new, experienced players by establishing a ‘gentler’ evening where experienced players welcomed the newly graduated students. A third night is planned to start in September 2008.

He has also played an active part in the County as Kendal representative and as Education Officer.
