Jill Gatti, who will long be remembered for starting the Charity Challenge simultaneous pairs to raise money for charity, has died after a fall, aged 83.

Jill, who was secretary of the London Contract Bridge Association in the late 1950s, ran the Charity Challenge for about 20 years, and was honoured by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution who named a lifeboat after her in recognition of all the money she had raised for them.

For many years she ran the Dollis Hill bridge club in London and she was still playing reguiarly up until her death. She leaves two sons, a daughter, six grand-children and one great grandchild.
