Updates from Aylesbury

Below is your monthly update from the EBU. Please note there are a number of important topics covered in the below. This email is also available on the EBU website, along with all past EBU Updates, here

EBU Contacts for Clubs

Clubs can log on to My EBU and run the Absent Members report which will show them all club members who have not played in over a year.

Please remember to keep the club membership list up to date in My EBU. If any members have passed away, then please let us know so we can update the EBU records.

A reminder to all clubs that if you require any assistance, particularly regarding restarting face to face sessions, Jonathan Lillycrop is the EBU Club Liaison Officer and will be pleased to help you. Jonathan can be reached on 01296 317206 or jonathan@ebu.co.uk. If your query is of a more general nature or you want to raise an issue with the EBU Board, then the Board Member responsible for clubs is Gayle Webb. Gayle can be contacted on gaylewebb@blueyonder.co.uk

Competitions

Rob Lawy (EBU Board) and Gordon Rainsford (EBU Chief Executive) gave a presentation at the AGM on the current Competitions strategy and upcoming events. Full details will be available to read in the AGM minutes when available. You can also watch the presentation on YouTube, the link will be available shortly and added to the EBU website.

As mentioned in the previous update, live events have been cancelled over the next few months. The EBU is offering clubs the chance to entice players back for a live game by holding a hybrid session of either or both of the Open Pairs and Mixed Pairs that are played on Wednesday 29th December as part of the Year-End Congress. Full details can be found at https://www.ebu.co.uk/article/hybrid-sessions-year-end-congress

If your club would like to take part, please email gordon@ebu.co.uk

If your weekly session times have changed recently or are likely to change over the holiday period, you can update your clubs playing/session information directly on the EBU website via My EBU. To update your sessions, login as your Club, then go to Account, Club Sessions. Here you can add/delete/edit club sessions.

Sim Pairs

The 2021 Simultaneous Pairs events organised by the EBU have come to an end, we're looking ahead to a new year of competitions. If your club already takes part then thank you, and we hope you will continue to support the EBU, EBED, and all bridge players, through your participation.

If your club hasn't taken part in the past, or has but didn't in 2021, we hope you can be encouraged to participate in 2022. There are several sim pairs starting again in January 2022, starting with the British Winter Simultaneous Pairs. The Tuesday session of the British Winter Sim Pairs will be held in memory of Peter Jordan, with a trophy awarded to the winners of the event. The trophy is a donation from Peter’s wife Barbara.

If you need any help with entering or setting up the session just contact Jonathan Lillycrop

AGM

The AGM took place on Tuesday 30th November 2021 via zoom. Minutes from the meeting will be available shortly. Details about the elections are available here.

New EBU Calendar

The EBU will shortly be launching its new calendar. Please feel free to view our Beta version. You can view this video as a guide to the new calendar.

The new calendar allows for Counties to add their events, and for readers of the calendar to filter the events in many different ways. If a CBA wants the capability to enter their events into the calendar, please contact charlie@ebu.co.uk
