Below is your monthly update from the EBU. All previous updates are available on the EBU Updates page.

This poster shows the upcoming EBU events. Please consider adding this to your club/county website and encourage your members to enter online via My EBU.

Nominations for Board and Standing Committees

Nominations for various positions, to be elected prior to the AGM on 27th November, close at midday on 30th October. Nominations can be made for:

  • members of the EBU Board
  • EBU Treasurer *
  • EBU Vice-Chair *
  • members of the Selection Committee ^
  • members of the Laws & Ethics Committee ^

Any nomination must come from a county shareholder so those who might be interested in standing should contact a shareholder.

Shareholders should have already been sent nomination papers and information, which includes the number of places available in each case, but may contact Kay Carter - kay@ebu.co.uk for more information.

* - the nominee must be a member of the EBU board so a nomination to become board member will also be required if the nominee is not already a board member. Please note that if the proposed changes to the Articles of Association are passed, the elections for officers' positions (Vice-Chair and Treasurer) will not count, as those places will be decided by the directors of the Board.

^ - Please note that if the proposed changes to the Articles of Association are passed, these elections for committee membership will not take place as the committee Chair and four committee members will be appointed by the directors of the Board, with up to four further members being able to be appointed by the committee itself.

The Competitions Working Group

As a reminder, the Nine-High Corwen is a new county-representative event to which counties can submit entries for pairs where both players have an NGS grade Two to Nine inclusive on 1st January 2025. We invite all counties to organise a qualifying competition.

Bridge Is a Big Deal!

The Bridge - It's a Big Deal! Festival of Bridge took place in September. Over 300 events were held in England and Scotland and we have smashed our target of £60k, with over £100,000 the current fundraising total!

We would like to thank everyone who helped organise or joined in an event, for their effort and contributions to making the festival a great success. The success of the Festival could not have happened without you.

Bridge events were held in clubs, village halls, and more unusual locations such as bus stops, golf clubs, beaches, cafes, and on a canal trip in Skipton! Further details from the festival will be published in the December English Bridge magazine, celebrating events across the country. You can also see updates on the Festival Hub page. If you have videos, photos or stories from your events that you have not yet shared with us, please send them to festival@ebu.co.uk

UMS For Junior Members

As a reminder for clubs, no Universal Membership is charged for juniors in regular club sessions, if they have registered their date of birth on their EBU record. Clubs may wish to encourage juniors to play by having reduced (or no) table money for juniors.
