Updates from Aylesbury - 3rd June 2024

Below is your monthly update from the EBU. All previous updates are available on the EBU Updates page.

This poster shows the upcoming EBU events. Please consider adding this to your club/county website and encourage your members to enter online via My EBU.

Changes to EBU Board

Due to recent illness, Tony Russ has resigned from the board of the EBU and all associated committee memberships. Abbey Smith has been appointed to take his position as Vice-Chair of the EBU until the AGM in November.

Safeguarding

The EBU is committed to the care and safety of young people and vulnerable adults and to ensure a safe environment whenever they are playing in our events, whether nationally, at county level or in clubs. As such we have created a new Safeguarding leaflet which we hope clubs and counties, as well as teachers, will find useful.

FESTIVAL UPDATE

Bridge - It's a Big Deal! 9-15 September 2024

Planning for the Bridge – It’s A Big Deal! Festival in September is progressing well. We have a list of all clubs who are planning events so far. You can search for events near you, either via our Map of Events or List of Events.

If your club is not yet listed, please email festival@ebu.co.uk with the name of your club, the name/type of event you are hosting and the date it is being held, we will then add your details to our lists.

Some clubs have already started their events and fundraising, thanks to Cross in Hand Bridge Club, Caterham Bridge Club and members of Bramhall & Cheadle Hulme Bridge Centre for supporting the EBU donations page for Cancer Research UK.

As a reminder, you are invited to join us this week for our latest Festival planning meetings via Zoom. If there is someone else at your club that has not received this email but would like to attend, please pass the details on to them. Please join using the links below:

New CEO to be Appointed at EBED

Following changes in his private circumstances Mark Humphris has decided to bring forward by some months the date he had planned to step back from his role and will be leaving EBED later this summer.

Mark remains a friend of EBED and no doubt will continue to participate and contribute to the game. We are grateful to him for his support over the transition to the new trustee team and all that he has contributed in both of his roles with us.

The search for a replacement has begun.

Top 50 Club by Players 2023/24

We're pleased to announce the top clubs by number of player sessions for the year (2023/24). This is for sessions played up to the end of March 2024. You can view the full list on the EBU website.

Nominations for Awards

Nominations can now be made for both a Silver Award and a Dimmie Fleming Award. The Silver Award is given for outstanding contribution and in recognition of long service as a volunteer at national and/or international level. The Dimmie Fleming Award recognises those who have made a significant contribution to county bridge through voluntary work over a long period.

All members can put forward suitable candidates, however the nominations should be submitted to the EBU by a County official, to confirm that it has the approval of the County Committee. Nominations should be made using Dimmie Fleming Form or Silver Award Form by Friday 23rd August. Nomination forms can be found on the EBU awards page.

Advertise your Congress Online with the EBU

The EBU home page is a great place to promote your next congress or for clubs/counties to publicise their next big events.

Could your event benefit from last minute advertising to bring in extra players? Well the best place to do this is the Home page of the EBU website.

The advert could be live today!

An advert on the Carousel at the top of the EBU home page is as little as £75 per month for CBA’s and Clubs. Want to give your event a boost, contact Danby Advertising on 01603 898678 or email adsales@ebu.co.uk.

Calling clubs and county associations – tell us your news!
