    (1) @Senior - The stop card is nothing more than an attention-getting device for all players who do not give their full attention to the bidding. Hence, in …

My interpretation of "hmm we had better accept it" would be construed as a question to East. Then a comment by East would be forthcoming.

I fully realize I am in the minority on this issue. Having a stop card, in my opinion, in the bidding box is unnecessary.

    (1) If the opponents or your partner are not observant, inattentive or whatever then this is their prob…

  • Another reason to do away with the Stop card entirely. There are no stop cards on BBO as well.

I concur with your assessment. If it is reasonable to announce the point range for a 1NT opening likewise it should be applicable for a 2NT opening.

Also, having to announce Stayman (1NT-2C) response is so widely used certainl…

  • Robin, is there a tentative date for the implementation of these revisions?

  • Please understand I have a profound respect for the written rules. However, at this time, bridge clubs are in a tenuous position trying to bring in new members but most importantly retaining our current members; especially those who regularly at…

Thank you for confirming my opinion about #3, Gordon but I did not want to challenge the lead director on this so I placed the option on the forum.

I concur this can be irritating. To clarify this I simply ask the question opponents to clarify their normal point range for those bids. At some of the clubs, I play, most people do not carry convention cards with them for me to revi…

  • It may have been explained to the director as a misclick.

  • Another possibility is when an individual chooses to log-in as 'Invisible.'

Only the 1NT 'forcing' should be announced. A semi-forcing 1NT is just like ACOL 1NT by the responder and is not announced or alerted. I do agree with you in a Level 2 competition a rebid by the opener should be noted as 3 cards. In…

Jeremy, I brought this to light because while participating in a tournament the opposition played non-promissory (described by them as Garbage Stayman) whereby after a 2D reply by opener the responder passed or corrected to 3C.

I understand what you are saying, Gordon. I should have said the only thing I have heard is 'Stayman.' Sorry for the confusion.

  • Yes, I would prefer smaller sections with its winners then have overall winners. I would say 16-20 tables per section would be better; after all, it is all computerized so no issues whatsoever.

  • The opening statement "... Level 4 tournament on BBO ..." fails to contain all the relevant information. Was it an EBU tournament or some other BBO tournament?

If it was not an EBU affiliated tournament then the EBU Blue Blue do…

  • Thank you, Gordon and others who have responded. It is not necessary, in my opinion, at this time to mention the TD's name as I believe in the management stating it will be raised with all TDs. For me this subject is closed.

  • Weejonnie - I am with you and in agreement with what you state as it is clear in the Blue Book as allowed. My concern is why do the Director's state in the opening Lucas Twos are not allowed. Thank you

  • Why not have events named in honorarium or special recognition for a small fee? This has had success across the pond in many regional and national events.

I agree with most of the above. Keep going with deleting prizes/trophies. Several years ago put a great many trophies in the bin as all they do is gather dust. By deleting prizes/trophies your cost diminishes.

Let's not wait just until the weekend. Why not introduce bracketed knock-outs offered during the week as well?

in Formats Comment by Am4Fun August 2019
  • Forgive me if I misunderstand but if we are talking about participating in knock-outs during a congress then I am all for it. Perhaps the way knock-outs are orchestrated during a congress needs to change. Case in point, for instance, participat…

  • One of the key points here one needs to understand the difference between hesitation and bidding in tempo. As an example, I have a regular partner who takes forever to bid on anything other than pass. His tempo is much longer than anyone else i…

  • Having a separate book apart from the Laws of Duplicate is cumbersome and confusing for the typical bridge player, IMO. A cross-reference between the Blue Book to the Laws would greatly aid players. Having played the game competitively for seve…

  • On BBO when a claim is made both defenders are given the opportunity to accept the claim. Only if both defenders press the button to accept the claim is it accepted. Otherwise, the claimer recieves a message stating the claim was not accepted a…
