  • I agree that the way the National Pairs qualifying event has attracted so many players maybe the way forward as a form of “qualification by stealth”.
Surrey are thinking about this for the proposed NGS<9 Corwen in 2025.
    I think it …

  • Law 47F 2

  • I have always thought it was 1 arrowswitch per number of boards not number of rounds. So for example I recently played a 17 table 34 board Mitchell with the last 2 rounds arrow switched.

  • Pont - the rules about announcing 2NT openings changed in the Blue Book revision last August.
Rule 4 E 1 now says: A natural 1NT opening is announced by stating the range, e.g. by saying “12 to 14”. Where a
1NT opening which is in pri…

  • Law 50 E 2
Information derived from a penalty card that has been returned to hand is unauthorised for the partner of the player who had the penalty card, but authorised for declarer.

  • This was a hesitation Mitchell with 2 arrow switches

  • Thank you all very much.

  • The board number was 5, and we were playing 3 board rounds. No other boards were affected.
We played 4 rounds with no problems, then the 5th time board 5 was played the score could not be entered on the Bridgemates.
    This continued in …

  • No there was no skip it was a 7 table hesitation Mitchell movement

  • Yes and it still wouldn’t work. This only happened on the final 4 rounds. The previous 4 rounds the results went into the Bridgemates as normal.

  • No at every table the declarer was south. The declarer and lead card were correct, and there was no misboarding of the hands.

  • Graham C - I would highly recommend uploading the pbn file to Bridgemates. Not only does it prevent errors (wrong board/wrong polarity), but it also gives players the chance to see the double dummy analysis after the hand has been played.

  • Could I suggest a way of dealing with slow play which has always worked for me. After a pair has been consistently holding up play for a couple of rounds, I say to them " when you move to the next table you will only play one board" (assuming 2 b…

  • I assume you mean how much does a county or club pay the EBU for these events?
Events have a code which you use when you submit the results to the EBU; - 50 for a Blue Point event, and 60 for a Green Point event.
    A normal club event i…

  • Thanks Jeremy.
Alan - sorry I should have said where my quote came from.
The White Book is a very useful document which clarifies situations which are not always apparent from the Law book.
It might be worth mentioning it to you…

  • I think this is the ruling you require Alan

    8.41.4 Dummy not displayed properly
If dummy is displayed incorrectly so that all the cards are not visible or a card is in the wrong
suit, this is an irregularity. If the defenders…

  • Alan - one thing that is proving very popular F2F at both Richmond and Wimbledon is incorporating either a lunch or tea break into a session.
These sessions have proved the most popular since reopening with the number of tables in double fi…

  • Abbie - if you go to your club's My EBU account and click on the tab along the top which says "Statements", it will list every invoice you have been issued with for the past few years.

  • I have never tried this online only on Scorebridge, but if I was withdrawing a pair's scores, I would just minus the score they received so that they would appear in the ranking list with a zero score.
So if the missing pair were E/W, and s…

  • Many thanks John - I suggested she uploaded Firefox and that worked fine.

  • Can anyone explain a problem one of our members is having with Realbridge? She is using Chrome and she has a camera on her p.c. as she uses it for Zoom. But she cannot get the camera to connect for Realbridge. The audio is fine. Any suggestion…

  • Thanks Gordon - that's what I thought, but someone was insistent they knew better!

  • I also played on Realbridge last night for the first time, and liked the graphics very much - I thought they were much less jerky than in BBO when you often click on a card and it takes a couple of seconds to move.
I also liked the ability …

  • Further to CMT Dibbler's comments above, Richmond BC have produced the following set of etiquette suggestions for their members which might be useful for other clubs:

    1. Play in the quietest setting available to you where you won’t be d…
  • Martin - I agree with you that there are many people who want to get back to club playing, but when we explained to our club members exactly what was involved they lost interest quickly. They want to get back to the club as they know it.

  • To answer Gordon's question about people coming to the club to play online bridge, members' greatest fear seems to be the possibility of touching anything that may be touched by others. So not only the cards, which have to be touched when dealin…

  • Does anyone have an update on the length of time we can expect between games being played and money from BBO via the EBU arriving in a county's bank account? Is it a culmulative monthly total?
Will the EBU be asking for UMS payments before…

  • Could I please use this forum to ask Gordon if any of the events in the type of Congress I mentioned in my earlier post could attract green points? I am being asked about running a similar style tournament (though with not quite so many events) …

  • I have been in touch with the Irish Bridge Association with a view to possilby running some sort of congress in the Autumn.
I received details from them of the forthcoming Sligo Congress which I thought was very impressive. They have alrea…
