We suffered from this at club this week. In order to know that he could cope with a Butler-scored event, our Scorer took the machines home and played around. When he kicked off the session on Monday evening, nothing seemed amiss until 7 minutes i…

You may gain some insight and avoid repetition if you can follow this link. If the link does not work, I apologise.

Likewise, if you bid 4H and it is deemed insufficient; if you do not subsequently make it sufficient, partner is silenced throughout. This, too, must be reported to L&E as it is central heating.

I was called to a table, the caller was North. He said "a fourteen twelve problem" and pointed to East/West.
I took East's hand, looked at it as I counted it (I had already played the board) and noted the 4-4-3-2 distribution.

Thanks, Barrie. I shall try that. -
We've been through this before; I am prevented, by law, from asking about the 2C bid because I know what it means (they have done it often enough and I do understand some elements of Precision) so I cannot warn my partner that 2C shows Clubs.
patricks - getting it wrong can depend on what is wrong.
We have club members who play Precision Club.
They open 2C which the EBU says is announced as "Intermediate".
They disagree with the EBU, they alert it!
This led to …Interesting - just such a discussion has spread like wildfire around our local clubs.
Initially, the phrasing was that "a change in the laws meant that you cannot leave your hand on the table to remind declarer they are in dummy".
Twe…Thanks, folks, you've put me right again.
At a GP event (Scarborough Summer) I was once on lead against a man (LHO) and a lady (RHO). She was so nervous that she did start to put down her hand as I led. We only managed to see the first two suits and, of course, it became a memory test fo…
My comments would be purely personal inasmuch as I have found the changeover to be too challenging for me.
I would not admit to being a technophobe - I have a BSc in Physics and a BA in Computer Systems Technology and spent my working life …Thanks to all.
** [Name & original comment removed at contributor's request]** thanks, I'll suggest he tries that.
Yes, it was the second week (of two) Swiss Teams and we'd had a team drop out after the first week.
This is (I'm guessing) why he…Thanks all.
If I conducted a poll, without mentioning the (potential/presumed/denied) body language and 100% of my pooled folk bid on, can I use this in my decision to allow the actual result achieved at the table to stand?

P.S. thanks (again) Barrie
So, you can see how misleading the Blue Book can be if it takes someone as good as Barrie to explain it to me TWICE before I understand it.
Another "colleague" in another forum was talking about his Multi. I had read in Blue Book 8C2 that it should have a minimum strength of 4 points. When I pointed this out, I was told that only applied to Level 2.
I would like to see Gordon's…This is very similar to those Opponents who use an "Asptro" type 2C or 2D over my 1NT to show H and a minor or Spades and another then they follow it up with a VERY firmly placed 3C or 3D to show a single-suited minor; I have (almost verbatim) u…
It can happen when TD specifies an arrow switch in the movement and subsequently allows play to proceed so slowly they run out of time and have to abandon play of the final round.
Gordon, many thanks for your assistance in this; I shall not watch any bridge when I'm non-playing TD.
Thanks, folks.
(Quote)Yes, Mitch, I did. I also explained that this hand was a great example of why she should not explain without being asked.
The 4C bid could have been (jump) preference for Clubs; it could have been a first-round cue-bid; it could …I did speak to E/W during the coffee break, initially asking whether the club had a psyche book.
West asked me "why?"The need to answer 4NT (RKCB) honestly - even after playing it for 15+ years, means that there is always a break in tempo whenever partner and I take the plunge. It always takes an extra second or two to avoid enquiring when the 5S response would…
Taking those two hands as a brilliant pair to ask about 1C Dbl, "round here" I was told that the first double (on AQxx 9xx 10x AQxx) is "for take-out". "What does take-out mean?" I ask. "It means I have an opening hand and some clubs and if partn…
If West know that N/S play this 3C bid as two-suited with Spades and Diamonds, then (s)he is not allowed to ask what 3C means.
The double of the cypher 3C bid then shows Clubs.P.S. the above comment was not intended to be critical of congress TDs who I regard highly.
