Tony Priday: 13th August 1922 - 9th October 2014

We are sad to report the death of Tony Priday at the age of 92.

Tony was a hugely successful player and non-playing captain for Great Britain for many decades, and enjoyed many victories in domestic competitions. He also gave generously of his time to the EBU, serving on a number of committees. As well as a player and administrator, Tony was a long-serving bridge journalist, having been appointed the Sunday Telegraph’s first columnist.

As Richard Fleet writes in Tony's obituary, "Tony will be remembered for his gentlemanly attitude as much as for his great ability at the game".

Tony's obituary is available here.

"Tony embodied everything that was good about bridge, a great player and charming gentleman. He was also a significant champion of change in the organisation that he loved, quietly supporting and advising me through the process. He was held in great affection and will be sorely missed". Sally Bugden, EBU Chairman 2008 - 2013

"Tony was a great player and servant of the game. He was a Vice President of the Union for 45 years, longer than anyone else, and throughout the period I knew him always had useful advice delivered in the most kindly of ways. He will be sorely missed and all at the EBU offer condolences to Vivian and all his family". Jeremy Dhondy, EBU Chairman
