It has been announced that the 2018 Asian Games, to be held in Jakarta, will include bridge.
The event, organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.
The 2017 South East Asian, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, will also include bridge. The World Bridge Federation believes the inclusion of bridge at these two events "is fundamental to help bridge to be accepted at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games". As previously reported the WBF were specifically invited to submit an application, and this has been duly sent to the Tokyo Committee - they are awaiting a decision as to whether they will be invited to proceed to Phase II of the application process.
