The 2005/06 Open and Women's
Trials
The Open Trials are held
to select the teams for the European Championships which will be
held in Warsaw in August.
Open Team
The Open Trials consist
of two stages of round robin qualifiers with the top four teams
progressing to a semi-final and final. The team leading the round
robin chooses their opponents in the semi-final and this year Simpson
chose to play Wolfarth.
In the first semi-final,
Hackett (Paul Hackett, Tony Waterlow, John Armstrong and John Holland)
beat De Botton (Justin Hackett, Jason Hackett, Nick Sandqvist and
Artur Malinowski) by 229-141 IMPs over 96 boards.
In the second semi, Simpson
(Colin Simpson, David Price, David Gold and Tom Townsend) beat Wolfarth
(Geoffrey Wolfarth, Nevena Senior, Brian Senior and Espen Erichsen)
by 218-180 IMPs.
The final, between Simpson
and Hackett, will be held at a date and venue to be decided.
The winner of the final
gets automatic selection and will be joined at the Europeans by
a third pair to be chosen by the Selection Committee.
Women's Team
The Women's Trials consist
of two weekends of all-play-all pairs with IMPs scoring. The leading
pair at the end will represent England at the Europeans and two
other pairs will be selected from the participants to join them.
