The Northern Midweek Congress has now concluded, with Harrogate the venue for three days of weekday bridge. This was the first Northern Midweek Congress held since 2019.
The Swiss Teams competition was won be the team of Mike Bell, Sarah Bell, Claire Robinson & Neeraj Tanna (pictured). They finished with 83 VPs from six matches, 3 VPs ahead of Babs Matthews, Joyce White, Sue McIntosh & Philip Cooper. The Woolven team was just one point behind in third place with 79 VPs.
The Swiss Pairs was won by Mike Ferguson & Alan Brosgill (picture) who finished with 93 VPs, ahead of John Holland & Jackie Pye in second place, who finished with 86 VPs. Ingar Hansen & Helen Rose completed the podium with 84 VPs.
Mike Bell & Sarah Bell (picture) also won the Open Pairs with a score of 62.22%. In second place were Duncan Thomas & Alex Wood with a score of 60.06%, just ahead of third placed pair Gary Hyett & Margaret Howe with 59.77%.
The Jack High Swiss Pairs was won by Carole Wilson & Karen Kayes (picture) who finished with 76 VPs from five matches. In joint second place were Karen Jones & Barbara Eastabrook and Lesley Forman & Paul Royle who both finished with 72 VPs.
The youngest player at the congress was 9 year-old Sophie Morris, who played in the Swiss Pairs on Wednesday.
