"Mr Cuthbert joined the Chelmsford bridge club in the early 1950s and served as chairman for five years and secretary for ten, in recognition of which he was made a life member of the club. He has formed the Alpha and Alpha Meed Bridge Clubs at Chelmsford, and was instrumental in the formation of the clubs at Basildon, Maldon, Rayleigh, Witham and Ongar. He has taught duplicate bridge at evening classes for twenty years with over 1,000 pupils.
I have known Mr Cuthbert throughout this period and I cannot think there can be anyone more dedicated to fostering duplicate bridge or more worthy of the Dimmie Fleming Award."
