Phil Lloyd

1954-2021

We are sorry to report the death of Phil Lloyd at the age of 67. Phil was General Manager of the EBU and Company Secretary from 1998 to 2001. Our condolences go to his family and friends.

Barrie Partridge, "senior kibitzer" on Bridge Club Live (BCL) writes:

In BCL, he played, as Hotspur, nearly 40,000 boards in the 16 years of which he was a member. His regular partner was Sue Maxwell (Smaxi) to whom condolences as well as to Phil's family.

Phil will also be known as having been the General Manager of the EBU from 1998 till 2001 in the very early years of online bridge. It was his support of Sue Maxwell (then EBU Marketing Manager) and Nick Justice in creating an online bridge club for the EBU that changed the course of my life. (The EBU club ran alongside Nick's already established International Online Bridge Club and the two merged in 2002 to become the Bridge Club Live we all know today.)

I got to know Phil very well. He and Sue would often meet up with me and my father for evenings of rubber bridge. Phil was a great and lovely chap, as well as having been a superb General Manager for the EBU.
