I am 24 years old and, having previously studied Economics at Cambridge University, I now work at PwC. I first started to play bridge at Reading School and joined the junior squad in 2019 before receiving my first major international selection in 2023 as a member of the England Junior Camrose team.
I attend a number of congresses throughout the year, along with other county events, and typically do best in consolation events… winning the Schools Plate, the ‘B’ final of the Scarborough Teams and the Blue-Pointed Surrey Swiss Pairs are all examples! More recently, Dominic Cooke (my regular partner) and I won the 2022 Great Britain Junior Pairs and the Year-End Congress Open Pairs.
I am also a keen director and qualified as a club TD in 2018. During lockdown, I organised and ran sessions for various virtual clubs on BBO, as well as a pairs and teams series for junior and university players. In 2022, I joined the national TD panel as a trainee and qualified to Congress TD in 2024.
Outside of bridge, I also have a strong passion for cricket and had the privilege of being in the Match Officials team as a scorer for Jimmy Anderson's last test match at Lord's in 2024.
Youth Bridge Award 2021 Citation:
This year a special award has been given to William Clennell, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Youth Bridge during 2020/21.

William is President of Cambridge University Bridge Club and he organised the Cambridge University Summer Online League in 2020, although this was not restricted to Cambridge University, and had 11 teams taking place which was a hugely successful junior event.
