Leverstock Green Bridge Club was established in November 1973 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month. Marion Fenn, bridge teacher and member of the club has written about the club and it's history:
We are proud to say that one of our founder members, Maureen Harrold still plays regularly at our club. She is pictured above with the trophy winners from our recent AGM. The second photo shows her with her son and daughter-in-law who are also regular players in the club.
To celebrate our anniversary, the club arranged an event with Andrew Robson which was attended by 60 of our members.
The club has regular sessions twice a week and also an extensive and growing teaching program from total beginners and returners to those just wishing to improve their game.
Our club sessions are friendly with our members having a wide range of bridge experience from those recently graduating from our teaching program through to those members who play regularly in national and county competitions. Several of our members represent Hertfordshire in inter-county matches and at county level. Recently our club members were victorious in the Herts Seniors Teams, Mixed Pairs and Hertfordshire 7-High Pairs.
Alan Woof, Club Chairman, says "It’s been a long journey from half a dozen people learning to play bridge in someone’s house to a thriving club running multiple weekly sessions for over 160 members and it’s been great to be part of that. We are in a good place to look forward to the next 50 years with a lot of optimism."
