The Origin of Duplicate Bridge

Submitted by English Bridge Union on

This month is the anniversary of the creation of the North Eastern Bridge Association (NEBA). NEBA was one of the first local associations to be created in England, with it's Headquarters in Newcastle. The guiding star of this body was, inevitably, the phoenix of bridge, Ewart Kempson. You can read more details about the origins of duplicate bridge in England in the October 1948 issue of the Contract Bridge Journal.

Further details about the formation of the EBU can be read about in newspaper clippings from the time, or on our History of the EBU page.
