The first Surrey Schools Cup since 2020 took place earlier this year, at Wimbledon Bridge Club. It was great to see such a good turnout for the event which was unable to be held last year due to Covid.
The main event, the Schools Cup was won by a combined team from Harrodian, St Paul’s Girls & Westminster which included William & Edward Battersby, Thomas Bradkin & Raphaela Sinclair. Runners up were the Haberdasher’s Ask A team of James Cater, Zack Saurymper, Rufus Barnett & Marco Vann.
The Salver was won by Westminster B team of James Berry, Daniel Yap, Aditya Gupta & Ryaan Sultan. In second place were the St Pauls Boys B team of Nichola Dyer, Elliot Gaudaire, Adavya Goyal & Anango Prabhat.
The mini-bridge for the David Garfit Clowes trophy was won by a pair from Epsom College, Leo Skingley & James Lau. The King’s College pair of Nikhil Dalton & Blake Haden came a very close second. Owing to last minute Covid concerns the mini-bridge tournament was played as a simultaneous pairs as the teams from Tormead were unable to attend the main competition but were able to play at their school.
Thanks to Wimbledon Bridge Club for their generous support of the event by providing the premises for free and for members volunteering to help out to make the event such a success. A total of 76 students attended the club and 8 played in the minibridge at their school. We were delighted to welcome Putney High School and Lady Eleanor Holles for the first time.
Many thanks to our volunteer director Richard Banbury who again took on the challenge of running the three events at once.
