Join our second Really Easy Afternoon

At the Spring Bank Holiday Congress in Bournemouth we will hold our second Really Easy Afternoon. The first event at the Easter Festival in London was a success and we hope that you will join us at this event, or encourage your friends and relatives to take part.

The event is named after the EBU’s Really Easy teaching scheme, and is aimed at those who may have recently learned how to play, or have yet to take the next step in the development of their game. The event is intended as an introduction to 'congress bridge' and is for those with no experience of green-point events. It is open to EBU members and non-members alike. There is no lower limit on the player’s ability, only that they are comfortable playing unassisted in a ‘club’ environment. As the event is aimed at those with limited playing experience, and who are still developing in the game, such players will be below the rank of Master on the EBU Master Points scale. For those who do not play regularly in EBU affiliated clubs we ask that a judgment be made to estimate whether the event would be suitable for them.

We hope that this event will both be enjoyable, and enable newcomers to experience the atmosphere of a ‘big congress’ without needing to go ‘in at the deep end’. After playing here we hope the next step of entering a full congress will be less daunting.

The event will be a duplicate pairs with prizes for the overall winners. The results will be stratified based on the EBU NGS grading system, with Blue Points awarded based on the stratified results. Non-EBU members, and those members without an NGS grade, will be assigned to the top tier for scoring purposes to ensure they do not gain an unfair advantage.

Individual players can be accommodated, so if you wish to play, and don’t have a partner, please contact us and we will try to match you up with someone.

The event will start at 2pm and will be played over approximately 21-24 boards (the exact number will be dependent on entries). It will end around 5:30pm. The cost of entry is £12 and a 50% discount is available for those EBU members who have not previously played in an EBU Congress.

The venue is Carrington House Hotel on Knyveton Road in Bournemouth, just five minutes drive from the town centre and beaches.

Entries should be made to the Competitions Department on 01296 317203/219 or by email to comps@ebu.co.uk

Of course for more experienced players there is the main congress, held at the same venue from Saturday 24th to Monday 26th May. Full details can be seen at our main congress page.

We hope that you will be keen to take part, or know someone who would be interested and that you will forward this information to them. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you require any further details.
