FESTIVAL UPDATE

Bridge - It's a Big Deal! 9-15 September 2024

As part of the Bridge - It’s a Big Deal! A Festival of Bridge we will be sending regular monthly updates to the membership to encourage people to join us in making Bridge a really big deal this September.

The festival is for everyone and every group so please do plan to join us in September. Once you have an event and date in mind, be sure to email festival@ebu.co.uk with the details so we can add your event to the map of events. We hope that very many U3a bridge groups will join us in arranging something special to celebrate the game we love and at the same time raise funds for our partners Cancer Research UK.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Festival Planning Zoom meetings this week, we hope you found them useful. These meetings will be held regularly in the run-up to the festival. The next Zoom meetings will be held on Wednesday 8th May at 9.30am and Thursday 9th May at 7.30pm. To join the meetings please email festival@ebu.co.uk and you will receive a link nearer the time. These meetings are short informal meetings to discuss ideas and resources available for planning your events.

County Festival Managers

For County Festival Managers, we would like to share the following Festival Plan from Worcestershire. We hope this can be used as a source of inspiration for other counties who are starting to plan events for the Festival.

Club Seminars

The next Club Seminar will take place on Tuesday 30th April at 11am. This Club Seminar will discuss EBU scoring programs other than EBUScore Pairs and demonstrate how they work.

Many clubs use EBUScore Pairs but that is only one of the scoring programs which are made available for free to affiliated clubs, the other programs are:

  • EBUScore Teams
  • EBUScore Swiss Pairs and Swiss Teams
  • EBUScore Individual

More recently the following programs which are more simplified versions intended for use by clubs have also been added:

  • EBU Club Pairs
  • EBU Club Teams

We hope this may be useful and give clubs the confidence to try the occasional teams or Swiss game. The seminar will be recorded in case you are unable to attend and also if you want a reminder before running an event.

If you or anyone in your club would like to attend on Tuesday 30th April at 11am please email sam@ebu.co.uk and you will be sent a Zoom link closer to the time.

More Club Seminars will be held throughout the year. If you have a subject you would like to see covered in a future seminar please contact jonathan@ebu.co.uk.
