Club Management Focus: Summer 2018

Thank you for supporting the junior international teams

We would again like to thank everyone who has contributed to the fundraising for the junior teams competing in the World Youth Team Championships in China. The response has been fantastic – not only because it has provided financial support but also because it has emphasized the importance that the membership places on junior bridge, giving a boost to all of those involved in knowing that they are appreciated.

There is still chance to contribute to the fundraising. At the time of writing we have nearly reached our target - but this was just a target and not the total cost involved with running the junior squads and attending the event. Any extra we can raise will be greatly appreciated, and no donation is too small. Donations through the page on the EBED site will close on 31st August but after that you can donate directly to us – contact accounts@ebu.co.uk for details.

Updates from China

If you have been following the action in China you will have seen that our teams have done well, but at the time of writing two have missed out on reaching the knockout stages, and the other two look likely to fall short too. It exceeded expectations that all four teams qualified, however, so their performances in competing among the elite of world junior bridge, against countries where bridge is given far more importance in the national curriculum, is a credit to the players and their coaches.

You can see results, and link to NPC blogs, at: www.ebu.co.uk/wytc2018

There is also a message board on which you can put up comments to congratulate the teams.

The knockout stages start today for the U16s, and on Wednesday for the other competitions, and there are consolation events running alongside these. The finals finish on Saturday. For full information visit the event website.
