Club Management Focus: Spring 2019

Would you like to run a heat of an EBU event at your club?

We are inviting clubs to express an interest in holding heats of a number of EBU events.

Summer Meeting midweek events – Monday 5th to Thursday 8th August 2019

When we weren’t able to hold a Summer Meeting at Eastbourne last year we invited clubs to run heats of the four midweek evening events. Although we will be back in Eastbourne this year, and holding the midweek events in the traditional manner, since they were so popular, we have decided to continue with the club heats, which will be scored across the field with the sessions held at Eastbourne. The events are as follows:

  • Monday 5th August – “Play with the Experts” Pairs
  • Tuesday 6th August – GCH Fox Championship Pairs
  • Wednesday 7th August – Mixed Pivot Teams
  • Thursday 8th August – Mixed Pairs

We are keen to involve more clubs and have greater geographical coverage, although regrettably it will not be possible to accommodate heats at clubs which are close to Eastbourne.

Masters Pairs - Sunday 1st March 2020

Following the success of the Summer events last year we adopted the same approach to the Masters Pairs, and it proved a great success. We would like to get a few more clubs involved for next year, particularly (but not only) to plug the obvious geographical gaps in the Midlands and North-West. The event is a two-session event, open to players who have not yet reached the rank of Regional Master.

National Pairs - Sunday 15th March 2020

Following the success of the Masters Pairs, we are adopting the same format for the National Pairs from next year. Club-based heats will be scored across the field, with the top 50 pairs in the overall ranking list qualifying for the National Final. The event is a two-session event open to all EBU members, and the Final is part of the Championship Series and carries significant Green point awards.

For all the events we have already asked clubs who were involved last time to express an interest, and we are now able to throw it open to all clubs. In order to avoid geographical clashes we are essentially adopting a first-come, first-served policy.

The way the events will work is that the club sets its own entry fee and is responsible for the organisation of the event, although we will provide detailed guidance, deal files, general support and publicity on our website. We will charge a special one-off UMS fee of £3 for each of the Summer events, £5 per person for the two-session Masters Pairs and £6 per person for the two-session National Pairs.
