As clubs are getting back to face to face play, now is the time of year when party planning is in full swing. Last week we looked at ways for clubs to liven up party's with more social games of bridge. Two clubs that are preparing for their Year End celebrations are the National Liberal Club in London and Oliver Cowan Bridge Club, which started online last year but is planning face to face events for the first time.

Next spring, the EBU will hold our first ever river cruise. Join us aboard the MS Arena for a journey through Holland and Belgium, taking in the world's ultimate flower show, which only takes place once every ten years, along the way. 

In 2017 four bridge clubs in South Notts – East Bridgford, Keyworth, Phoenix (Ruddington) and West Bridgford set up a joint project to run market and advertise bridge courses, and to establish supervised bridge sessions so that novices would be able to play bridge in a safe environment before migrating to full club sessions. They were supported by a £250 grant from their EBU county association.

It has been agreed that in an effort to improve communications, a monthly email will be sent to the chairman and secretaries of all clubs and counties. This monthly email will replace the Club Focus that was sent quarterly and ad hoc emails.

Ken Barbour (1938-2021) was an engineer, and also a graduate of Cambridge He went to the USA later in 1963 for professional reasons. He returned to London in the late 60s and then returned to the USA, living in Boston and finally settled in Phoenix, Arizona. He retired in 1993 and began to play bridge more seriously. He had a good partnership with Alan Truscott (who, amongst other notable achievements, was the bridge correspondent for the New York Times).
