Alan Caves has made his contribution in Bedfordshire, where he served on the county committee for 19 years, before retiring a couple of years ago and then taking on the role of county web master and using his considerable IT skills to bring members an accurate and efficient online service. He has also taught bridge and Introduced numerous pupils to club and county play and to EBU membership. At club level Alan, with wife Sheila, is responsible for the administration of Milton Keynes BC.
Sheila Warner has been the mainstay in organising the Norfolk Congress for 30 years, chairing the congress committee most of the time. She and husband Tony have been active in the King's Lynn Club for 25 years, with Sheila, who is club secretary, barely missing an evening and always arriving first to set up the room for play. She has served as county president and has not missed a county meeting in 13 years.
Brian Keable has recently retired from the Bedfordshire committee, having occupied a number of posts over the years, most recently that of county secretary.
In retirement he continues with quiet efficiency to organise Bedfordshire's one day Green Point events, the income from which the county relies on for its solvency.
Jean Newton was Worcestershire secretary for nine years, taking over from Ron Allen on his retirement in 1989. As well as rewriting the constitution in accordance with EBU requirements, she was the prime mover in getting Worcester as the venue for both the Camrose, when all four countries took part in the final weekend, and the Junior Camrose. She was also the match manager.
On taking county office Jean became a Worcestershire CBA shareholder and has remained so.
As a delegate to the EBU Council meetings she is noted for articulating the viewpoint of her county.
