EBU Update - 3rd August 2022

Below is your monthly update from the EBU. Please note there are a number of important topics covered. This email is also available on the EBU website, along with all past EBU Updates, here.

Stage a heat of a National Competition?

The National Handicap Pairs Championship will take place on Sunday 4th September. So far, 13 clubs have signed up to take part. There is still time if your club would like to host a heat, please email sam@ebu.co.uk. This is an opportunity for your members to compete on equal terms with players across the country for the title of National Handicap Pairs Champions 2022. Details of the event are on the EBU website at National Handicap Pairs Championship.

If your club is not hosting the event, please encourage your members to think about playing in one of the other heats taking place either online or face-to-face.

Building club membership in the new world of face to face and online

Thank you to those who joined us last week for the Building Club Membership seminar. If you missed the session, the recording is now available to view on the EBU YouTube channel.

Calling Club and County Secretaries!

We have created an online form for counties to update the records we hold, including address, county officials, scorers and shareholders. Please go to www.ebu.co.uk/members/counties to complete the form.

Please try our new club directory preview – and update your club details

We have been working for some time on a better way to help enquirers find the club to play or learn bridge, and now have a new online club directory with information on club facilities as well as, where possible, the schedule of future sessions drawn from Bridgewebs. Please have a look here:

https://www.ebu.co.uk/explore/clubs/

and let us know what you think! There are a couple of action points for clubs to get the best presentation in the new directory. One is to complete our online club details form, including the club description and Bridgewebs name (for clubs that use Bridgewebs), as this information is used by the directory. Second, we are highlighting teaching clubs, so if your club offers teaching, make sure it has told us, again via the online club details form. More information is available via the Help link on the club directory page, and there is also a link for your feedback.

The online club details form is here:

https://www.ebu.co.uk/members/clubs/

Note: even if you completed this recently, we would like you to return and add a club description and Bridgewebs link, for the new directory. It is quick and easy!

EBU Summer Meeting

There are now less than 2 weeks until the big bridge event of the summer the EBU Summer Meeting! Currently we have over 40 tables in each of Swiss Pairs and Swiss Teams. If you would like to join, you can enter even on the day of the event. The Mayor of Eastbourne is opening the event at 7pm on Thursday 6th August. If you are unable to make it to Eastbourne, we will have photos and results throughout the weekend, please share our posts social media.

Nominations for Awards

A a reminder, please complete any nominations for the Dimmie or Silver Awards by 26th August. The Silver Award is given for outstanding contribution and recognition of long service as a volunteer at national and/or County level. The Dimmie Fleming Award recognises those who have made a significant contribution to county bridge through voluntary work over a long period.

All members can put forward suitable candidates, however the nominations should be submitted to the EBU by a County official, to confirm that it has the approval of the County Committee.
