Taster Sessions

A taster session is a great way to build the membership of your club by welcoming and introducing people who have no knowledge of the game to your friendly club. Below are some simple suggestions to remember when thinking of running a taster session. This is not an exhaustive list, please feel free to expand with your own ideas:

Ace of Spades

Make the event welcoming
The aim of taster sessions is not to teach people how to play, but to show people how fun the game can be to play and how much fun they can have making new friends and learning a new skill at the bridge club.

Two of Hearts

Create a lovely atmosphere
People will feel welcome if you take the time to create a lovely atmosphere at your club. Perhaps set out refreshments; ask for some of your more enthusiastic club members to attend to speak to people and answer questions, and/or some existing and enthusiastic students; make sure the temperature of the space is ambient.

Three of Clubs

Give people chance to play
After some mingling, perhaps give a short presentation introducing people to the game. Have table set up for people to sit at, with cards for people to have a go. Set up some short games of Minibridge with plenty of supervision from volunteers

Four of Diamonds

Take contact details
Ask for names and contact details of people who attend. Have a handout with details of an upcoming course you are running, the aims of the course, all the dates, how long the lessons are, what it costs, and what happens when the course ends.
