This was the National Bridge Association's Teams of Four Championship before World War 2. From 1947 it became the inter-county teams of eight (although in the early 1950s the Southern group played as a team of four in the qualifying round and a team of eight in the final). Group qualifying stages were introduced in 1953 leading to a two team final which became four regions in 1954. A central venue for qualifying to replace the regional qualifiers was introduced in 1984. Group qualifying stages were introduced in 1954. From 2006 Welsh Regions joined in.
